Meet Max B. Pedersen

Max B. Pedersen is a licensed clinical psychologist (cand.psych.) with a PhD in work and organisational psychology. He is the founder and clinic director of EGOLAB, a Danish psychology practice where a team of psychologists works with therapy, testing and assessment in nine clinics and online. Numbershine is his answer to a problem he meets every week in practice: too many people need answers about themselves, and far too few can get them quickly.

His clinical training is long and specific: specialist-level training in cognitive therapy, specialist-level training in intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy (ISTDP), and approval as a peer-reviewed ACT trainer. He has worked as chief psychologist at a pain clinic, taught at MSc and MBA level, and supervises other psychologists. His most recent further training covered ADHD, ADD and autism (2025).

Testing is part of his everyday clinical work: intelligence testing with the WISC and WAIS, attention testing with the TOVA, and full psychological assessments. Numbershine grew directly out of that practice. The instruments are chosen the way he would choose them for a client in the clinic, and the reports are written the way he would want a report written for someone he sees in person.

He has also spent years building AI for psychology, as the architect behind Lovespiel.com, an AI-supported couples counselling service, and the EGOLAB AI Psychologist. The AI that conducts Numbershine's interviews is trained and instructed by Max personally: what it may ask, how it phrases things, and what it is never allowed to conclude. When you answer its questions, you are working through a protocol a psychologist wrote, not talking to an unsupervised chatbot.

Why Numbershine exists

A proper psychological assessment is one of the most useful documents a person can own. It is also expensive, and the queue is long. Private evaluations commonly cost more than a month of rent, and public waiting lists, especially for ADHD, are measured in months or years. Most people simply never get one, and many stop asking.

The internet answered with quizzes: quick, unvalidated, and silent about their sources. They can be fun, but you cannot bring them to your doctor.

Numbershine is the third way: fast screening for the people, built to clinical standards. Licensed psychologists choose validated instruments and fix the procedures and the wording; the AI does the patient, repetitive work of administering them. You get an answer in hours rather than months, at a price closer to a book than to a clinic bill, and the free tests let you judge the quality of the work before paying anything.

If you have waited months for an answer, or put off asking because of the price, this service was built for you.

How psychologist and AI share the work

Max decides

Which instruments are used, how answers are scored, which ICD-11 criteria apply and how conclusions may be worded. Nothing about the method is left to the model.

The AI administers

The AI conducts the interview and the test battery, trained and instructed by Max. It adapts its follow-up questions, works at your pace, at any hour, without a waiting room.

Psychologists audit

Finished reports are reviewed for accuracy and tone, and the performance of every protocol is monitored over time. What falls short gets corrected.

Built on ICD-11, the current standard

Everything Numbershine reports is framed in ICD-11, the World Health Organization's newest classification of mental and behavioural conditions, in effect since 2022. It is the reference used by the Danish health service and by clinicians across most of the world.

The choice matters in a practical way: results written in current clinical language keep their value. You can bring your report to a doctor or a psychologist and be understood at once, and nothing in it needs translating from an outdated framework. If you want to see how this compares with a clinician-led evaluation, read AI vs traditional psychological assessment.

The standards behind the service

Four commitments run through everything Numbershine publishes, from the shortest free test to the full assessment.

Validated instruments

Every scale used on Numbershine is an established, peer-reviewed instrument with documented reliability. If the evidence is thin, it is not published.

ICD-11 framework

Findings are described against ICD-11, the WHO classification used by clinicians in Denmark and across most of the world.

Privacy under GDPR

Your answers are sensitive health data and are treated that way: encrypted, never sold, never used for advertising. Details are in the privacy policy.

Honest limits

The tests and the assessment inform; they do not diagnose. A formal diagnosis requires a licensed clinician, and every report says so.

Our mission is to eliminate unhelpful psychological processes and improve quality of life through a better understanding of self.
